Suggested Itinerary:
Day 1 Melbourne to Great Ocean Road (Apollo Bay) (3 hrs)
Leave Melbourne heading west over the West Gate Bridge towards the open plains of Werribee. Have coffee or lunch in Geelong before heading along the Surf Coast to Torquay, the official start of the Great Ocean Road and Australia’s surfing capital. Continue on the spectacular coastal journey through to Apollo Bay. Overnight: Apollo Bay.
Day 2 Apollo Bay – Port Campbell – Warrnambool (2 hrs 30 mins)
Drive along the Great Ocean Road past rugged cliffs, rolling farmlands, the almighty Twelve Apostles (best viewed from a helicopter), Bay of Islands (try seeing them at sunset) then onto Warrnambool or the pretty fishing village of Port Fairy. Overnight: Warrnambool or Port Fairy.
Day 3 Warrnambool – Ballarat (2hrs 30mins) – Melbourne (1hr 30mins)
From Warnambool, head inland towards Ballarat. Strike gold at Sovereign Hill and experience the gold fever at Sovereign Hill. Get up close with Australian native animals at Ballarat Widlife Park and return to Melbourne city via Western Highway. Overnight: Melbourne.

Day 3 Warrnambool to Grampians (2.5hrs) Drive to Dunkeld, southern gateway to the Grampians National Park. Walk to cascading waterfalls or lookouts overlooking rugged mountain ranges and discover the diverse wildlife of the region. Overnight: Grampians (Halls Gap).
Day 4 Grampians to Ballarat/Daylesford (2 hrs 30 mins)
Explore Ballarat and head to Australia’s famous spa country of Daylesford. Drink the mineral waters bubbling up from the earth, enjoy a therapeutic massage and unwind in cosy country retreats replete with fabulous food and wine of the region. Overnight: Daylesford.
Day 5 Daylesford to Melbourne (1 hr 30 mins)
Spend time exploring Daylesford and Hepburn Springs before making the journey back to Melbourne. |
