Suggested itinerary:
Day 1 Launceston – Cradle Mountain (181 km - 2 hrs 30 mins)
Visit 41° South Aquaculture Salmon and Ginseng Farm; Ashgrove Farm Cheese; House of Anvers Chocolate Factory and Melita Honey Farm to taste Tasmania’s famous Leatherwood honey. Visit Trowunna Wildlife Park, tour Marakoopa Cave to see glow worms and stop at Sheffield-a mural town and Tasmazia. In the evening, for some nocturnal fun, join the animal spotlight tours or Devils@Cradle for some wildlife night feeding.

Join a tour to Cape Grim to catch a whiff of the cleanest air in the world, walk or take the chairlift ride to the top of The Nut at Stanley. Admire fields of striped tulips (Sep – Oct) and other seasonal blooms such as iris, daffodils and lilies at Table Cape.

Day 2 Cradle Mountain - Strahan (151 km – 2 hrs 30 mins)
Stroll around Dove Lake and explore the surroundings or indulge in nature activities such as walks, horse-riding, fly-fishing or wilderness flights. In the afternoon, head to Zeehan Mining Museum to learn of a miner’s life and follow the road to Strahan, a beautiful fishing village overlooking the vast Macquarie Harbour Australia; once home to the colony’s most infamous convicts.
Day 3 Strahan
Take a Gordon River cruise or tour the West Coast Wilderness. In the evening, enjoy ‘The Ship That Never Was’ – a play depicting the convicts epic escape from Sarah Island.
Overnight: Strahan
Day 4 Strahan – Hobart (300 km – 5 hrs)
Depart Strahan for Queenstown where you can tour the Mt Lyell Copper Mine. Stretch your legs at Lake St Clair and walk to Russell Falls in Mount Field National Park. For a farmstay, stay at Curringa Farm or journey onto Hobart.
Overnight: Hobart or Hamilton (Farmstay)

Options in Hobart and Surrounds Explore the Huon Valley; visit the Tahune AirWalk and sample local food and wine. If you are feeling adventurous, try cable hang-gliding or a thrilling jetboat on the Huon River or cross to Bruny Island for an eco-cruise.
Perhaps simply browse through antique stores, discover stunning arts and crafts, linger over a coffee in one of the street cafes, explore the fishing harbour but don't whatever you do, miss Salamanca Markets on Saturdays mornings where two blocks of stalls are bustling with people offering you some of the finest arts and crafts found in Tasmania. If it is a week day visit the Cadbury Chocolate Factory for shopping bargains.
Spend the afternoon in Hobart discovering the harbour, gardens or the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Australia's largest private art museum. Enjoy an informative Cascade Brewery tour before driving up to Mt Wellington for its splendid view of the city or get a different perspective of Hobart harbor on a two-hour relaxing paddle tour and taste some of the best fish and chips on a kayak! |
